.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- An upper level trough passing through Montana this weekend will bring near to slightly below average daytime temperatures through the end of the next week.

- Freezing temperatures Sunday night and Monday morning.

- Rain is expected late tonight through Sunday morning. Most of the rain will be south of the Missouri River.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

A cold front will continue pushing into Montana tonight bringing cooler temperatures over the weekend. Nighttime lows below freezing are expected on Sunday night. The lowest temperatures will be in the low 20s in northern Philips and Valley counties.

A shortwave on SW flow aloft moves into the forecast area Saturday morning. Chances for light rain will start in some areas tonight but the main area of rain with this system is expected Saturday and Saturday night with a upper trough over Montana. Most of the rain with this system will be south of the Missouri River where the probability of 0.25 inch of rain is 40 to 70 percent while it will be 20 percent or less near the Canadian Border.

Chances for light rain will linger into Sunday morning south of the Missouri River. Then, skies will clear Sunday afternoon as high pressure moves into the area. Gusty NW winds may be high enough to require a Lake Wind Advisory on Sunday.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Blended day 1 through day 3 PoP forecast with SREF and HiResWARW. Confidence remains high for precipitation south of HWY 2 with increasing confidence in higher PoPs in the southeastern side of the CWA through Sunday.

DISCUSSION: General SW flow aloft will bring varying amounts of mid and high clouds today and tonight.

WIND: Northerly winds around 8 kts will continue through this afternoon. A brief push of higher wind speeds up to 15 kts from 23Z to 3Z tonight before becoming light and variable. Northerly winds return tomorrow.

EQUIPMENT: At KSDY an AMD NOT SKED will remain in place until the METARs comms issue is repaired.
