.DISCUSSION... Issued at 357 AM CDT Thu Oct 2 2025

Today...

Temperatures this morning are in the mid 50s to low 60s under mostly clear skies and light winds. Aloft ridging is building over the area behind a departing shortwave trough. Patchy fog is possible through the mid-morning west of Highway 183 where winds will be the lightest, however dense or widespread dense fog is not expected. A seasonably warm day is expected across the area as highs climb into the 80s. Light winds and sunny skies will make for a fairly pleasant day overall.

Friday...

An upper level trough moves onto the West Coast on Friday, as ridging strengthens over the Plains/Midwest. Another warm day is expected across the area with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Southerly winds will be breezy during the afternoon, gusting 20- 30mph, strongest across southern portions of the area. Temperatures Friday night only fall into the mid-upper 60s due to winds remaining breezy overnight.

This Weekend...

Southwesterly flow aloft strengthens over the area on Saturday as troughing moves into the Rockies. Highs once again climb well above their climatological normals, in the upper 80s to low 90s (10-20 degrees above normal). Gusty southerly winds are expected during the day on Saturday. The NBM has a 40-80% chance for gusts to exceed 45mph on Saturday, highest across northern and western portions of the area.

Rain chances return to the area Saturday night as thunderstorms develop along a cold front in eastern CO/WY. There remains uncertainty on how widespread this development will be, and how long storms last before weakening. Still, western portions of the area could see thunderstorms during the late evening-overnight hours on Saturday.

The cold front will gradually push its way through the area on Sunday. Temperatures on Sunday will range from the low 70s across northwestern portions of the area where the cold front passes through Sunday morning, to the mid 80s across southeastern portions of the area where the cold front reaches during the afternoon- evening hours. Scattered thunderstorms redevelop along and north of the cold front during the evening-overnight hours on Sunday. The highest chances will be closest to the cold front, across southeastern portions of the area.

Next Week...

Cooler weather is expected behind the cold frontal passage next week under the influence of troughing aloft. Highs on Monday will be noticeably cooler, with highs only reaching the 60s. Temperatures remain cooler through the middle of next week, with highs in the 60s to low 70s and lows in the 40s and 50s Tuesday/Wednesday. Scattered, off and on chances for precipitation continue through the end of the forecast period as a series of weak disturbances move through the area. The details on any of these chances will become clearer as we get closer. Active weather is expected to continue past the forecast period, with the CPC 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks favoring above normal precipitation for the area.
