.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms today.

- Cool and unsettled pattern persists through the weekend.

- Early-season mountain snow possible late Saturday into Sunday with colder temperatures.

Southwesterly flow will persist over the Northern Rockies today as a trough of low pressure digs along the Pacific Northwest coast. A weak disturbance is currently moving through this flow pattern early this morning as plume of light precipitation traverses west central Montana.

Tonight the flow becomes even more southerly as the low moves into northern California. A stream of moisture will cause light plume of light to moderate precipitation to stream over portion of central Idaho into southwest Montana.

The trough of low pressure moves towards to the east Friday into Saturday. The movement of the low will cause cooler temperatures and isolated shower activity as the bulk of the energy of the trough will be over the Great Basin region.

A secondary disturbance appears to slide southward out of central Canada bringing cooler air along with enhanced precipitation along the Continental Divide. The higher terrain of Glacier NP is still anticipated to receive a couple of inches of new snow by Sunday morning.

Northerly flow is anticipated to remain over the Northern Rockies for the first part of next week. Temperatures will be warming gradually each day with the potential for some lingering showers in the higher terrain.

.AVIATION...A plume of showers will continue to stream through portions of north central Idaho into west central Montana until 02/15z. These showers will cause a slight reduction in visibility of lowered ceilings. The moist low levels across northwest Montana will allow for the development of patchy valley fog and low stratus. KGPI will have the main impact from the low stratus until around 02/17z. Isolated showers are expected to linger across the region, especially this afternoon.
