Early morning IR satellite imagery is showing hurricane Imelda to
the east of Florida pulling away to the northeast. Through the
rest of the week, a broad mid level shortwave will rotate south
into Florida, then will linger overhead through the weekend and
into early next week. At the surface, broad high pressure will
fill in from the north in the wake of Imelda`s departure, setting
up modest east and northeast flow, and allowing moisture to
increase slightly. As a result, rain chances will gradually
increase through the rest of the week, with isolated to scattered
coverage today becoming numerous by this weekend, then moderating
back to scattered to numerous coverage early next week. Otherwise,
temperatures will run near to slightly above normal through the
period, with afternoon highs topping out in the mid 80s to around
90, and morning lows from the upper 60s to mid 70s.

Some MVFR ceilings will be possible around 14-16z this morning,
mainly over the interior around KLAL. VFR conditions should then
hold until mid afternoon, when scattered showers and a few storms
develop, with the highest chances over southwest Florida.

As hurricane Imelda to the east of Florida pulls away, surface
high pressure will build into the eastern Gulf from the north,
creating a tight pressure gradient across the waters. This will
result in east and northeast winds increasing to Small Craft
Exercise Caution or Small Craft Advisory levels tonight through
the upcoming weekend, with the highest winds generally north of
Tampa Bay. Otherwise, scattered to numerous showers and storms
will develop each day, creating locally gusty winds and rough
seas.

Surface high pressure will build into Florida from the north
through the rest of the week, setting up northeast and east
flow. Rain chances will gradually increase each day. No humidity
concerns.
