.SYNOPSIS... High pressure will build southward into the region for the middle of the week and remain in place over the weekend, right into early next week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/... Main challenge will be how much temperatures fall the next couple of nights. Conditions do appear favorable for radiational cooling with clear skies and light winds. Temperatures tonight look to fall into the upper 30`s and low 40`s just warm enough to prevent anything more than widely patchy frost/fog in valley locations. A cooler airmass will be coming southward with the high pressure system dropping highs Wednesday into the 60`s. Wednesday night looks like the coldest night as the coldest of the airmass aloft moves over our region. A few locations in the western Catskills and northern Oneida county have the potential to fall slightly below freezing. A freeze watch has been issued for these areas with frost possible in valley locations elsewhere.
&&
.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/... Temperatures start a slow warming trend, getting toward 70 for highs as high pressure remains in control. Low temperatures trend warmer ending any frost potential.
&&
.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... The prolonged dry and sunny conditions will continue through the weekend and into Tuesday as high pressure still dominates the weather pattern. With the high remaining centered off the mid- Atlantic coast, a south to southwesterly flow will advect in warmer air and send our high temperatures back well above average through early next week. Highs Saturday look to be largely in the mid to upper 70s with some spots making a run at 80 degrees. Sunday and Monday are expected to be in the upper 70s and low 80s. Overnight lows are expected to be in the upper 40s and 50s into early next week.
&&
.AVIATION /06Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/... VFR conditions are expected at all terminals through the TAF period. A very dry air mass moving in from the north combined with winds that remain elevated just above the surface is expected to keep fog from forming early this morning, including at ELM.
North-northeast winds will become a bit breezy late this morning and into this afternoon with gusts around 15 knots possible before diminishing this evening. With the dry air remaining in place and some high clouds moving in aloft later Wednesday night, the chances for fog formation look very low once again.
Outlook...
Thursday through Sunday...VFR. Potential early morning fog at KELM each morning may result in restrictions.
