Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tucson AZ 302 AM MST Sun Sep 28 2025

.SYNOPSIS...Drier air has moved in across the area which will limit the chance of showers and thunderstorms today. High temperatures will be below normal this weekend then warm this week under dry conditions.

.DISCUSSION...The upper low over SE CA this morning will lift NE into nrn AZ today and open up. With a drier air mass in place, only expecting isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly NE of Tucson this afternoon. High temperatures will once again run several degrees below normal. Dry conditions this upcoming week as we close out September and Monsoon 2025 and move into October with with warming high temperatures as high pressure builds over the area.

.AVIATION...Valid through 29/12Z. SKC-SCT 8k-10k ft AGL. ISOLD -SHRA/-TSRA northeast of a KTUS-KDUG line aft 28/18z. SFC winds SELY less than 10 kts thru 28/17z then again aft 29/03z. At other times, SFC winds SWLY at 8-15 kts. Aviation discussion not updated for TAF amendments.

.FIRE WEATHER...Isolated showers and thunderstorms today, mainly east of Tucson. Generally winds will be south to southwest through this week with speeds up to 15 mph and gusts up to 20-25 mph. Minimum RHs between 25-35 percent today will lower through the week as a drier airmass becomes more established across Southeast Arizona, lowering to 15-25 percent the second half of the upcoming work week. Temperatures will be slightly below normal today, warming to above normal by midweek.
