.PREV DISCUSSION... SHORT TERM...Tonight through Saturday night...High pressure remains over the area with warm temperatures today and Friday. A low pressure system over southern CA will slowly move northward into the Great Basin tonight. High level clouds will stream northward into southeast OR and southwest ID late this afternoon, with mostly cloudy skies into Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will be slightly cooler due to cloud cover, but still around 5 degrees above normal. There is a 10-15% chance of showers and afternoon thunderstorms along the Idaho-Nevada border Friday. The shower and thunderstorm chances expand into southeast Oregon and the higher terrain south of the Snake River Plain Saturday evening. These showers and storms have the potential to produce outflow wind gusts up to 50 mph.
LONG TERM...Sunday through Thursday...A cold frontal passage on Sunday will increase shower and thunderstorm coverage across east-central Oregon and the west-central Idaho mountains while bringing gusty westerly winds to the region. Temperatures on Monday lower to near normal. By Tuesday the ridge rebuilds over the region with temperatures warming to around 10 degrees above normal Tuesday and Wednesday. Forecast confidence beyond Wednesday is low.
